Chinese medicine is based on a long-standing, holistic approach to illness and its prevention. While it began in China thousands of years ago, it has been and continues to be, modified and expanded as our understanding of different health conditions advances.

The overall aim of Chinese medicine is to return the body and mind to a natural state of balance, encouraging the body to heal. Treatments involve close examination of the particular issue the patient would like addressed, as well as their general physical and emotional health. Through these methods a treatment is designed that is specific to each individual which seeks to address all of the patient’s health concerns.

The holistic treatment approach used in Chinese medicine may be applied to a wide variety of conditions, from the common cold to musculoskeletal pain, to periodic conditions such as migraines, insomnia, fatigue and stress, as well as to chronic conditions like autoimmune diseases, thyroid conditions or digestive system complaints.

Chinese medicine uses a variety of techniques in the treatment process. The most commonly known are acupuncture and Chinese herbs, however the treatment may also include cupping and gua sha massage, as well as diet and lifestyle advice.
